Bad Ending

Learning Points for the Bad Ending

To communicate effectively with someone from another culture, you cannot assume that another's attitudes and lifestyle are similar to your own. Cultural differences can be seen in social values, ideas relating to status, decision-making habits, concepts of time, use of space, and manners. Understanding such differences can keep you from unknowingly acting in an inappropriate manner.

Did you notice:

  • how Pauline's decision not to learn about the Indian culture spelled disaster for her and for CanGo?
  • that Pauline's dress was not appropriate for a business luncheon?
  • how she insulted Mr. Vaidya by speaking negatively of his homeland, negatively of her family (which is important in Indian culture), and negatively of cows (she called them dumb)? She added insult to injury when she made complimentary reservations for Mr. Vaidya at a steak house.
  • that Pauline was late?
