Fluctuations in demand, task times, and other factors, cause significant difficulties in managing operations. For CanGo, fluctuating orders during the week cause difficulties in scheduling employees to process those orders. Also, issues in scheduling orders arise out of fluctuations in the times to process the orders. Although it is not difficult to forecast the average workload and determine how many employees are required, scheduling employees also involves other considerations. As you watch this video, notice how Warren and Debbie take a technical approach to the scheduling of employees but Maria reminds them of the other human considerations. Also, note the secondary scheduling problem of scheduling orders on Monday to reduce as much as possible the backlog built up over the weekend.
