Discussion

Now that you've watched the Case Video, consider the discussion questions below. Some of these questions ask you to reflect on what you've seen in this video. Others may provide links to Web sites for further exploration.

1. Since the 1970s, Boards of Directors have experienced several trends that have changed their operation. James Kristie, editor of Directors & Boards, provides insight into these shifts. Read The More things Change... and then describe those changes. Do any of these changes reflect Liz's opportunity to join a board of trustees?

2. After noting all of these changes, James Kristie concludes that, "the more things change, the more they remain the same." Given the change we have just discussed, to what might Mr. Kristie be referring?

3. Compare and contrast the recruitment technique of the President of Hudson College with those suggested by Michael Burns in the article Build Your Board from the Bottom Up. Which approach seems more effective and why?

Congratulations! You've come to the end of this episode.
